The Sodexo Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sodexo, Inc., has opened the application period for its national STOP Hunger Scholarship program. The program supports the education of young people who are working to end hunger in communities across the United States and brings attention to the innovative and effective solutions that they are implementing toward ending hunger in their lifetime.
Up to five students selected as national winners will each receive a $5,000 scholarship award and a matching $5,000 grant in their name for the hunger-related charity of their choice. In addition, up to twenty regional winners will receive a $1,000 grant in their name for the hunger-related charity of their choice.
To be eligible, students must be enrolled in an accredited education institution (kindergarten through graduate school) in the United States and be able to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to hunger-relief activities in their community.

Tourism Cares Scholarships: Deadline April 1, 2009
From Tourism Cares, maybe some of those focusing on Ecotourism would like to apply for this. SHORT TURNAROUND!!!
The application deadline for the Tourism Cares 2009 Spring Academic Scholarships is next Wednesday April 1, 2009 at 5pm EST. Since we have moved to an online scholarship platform, all but one item (the official transcript) must be scanned and submitted in electronic form only. The student can access our online scholarship platform through our website www.tourismcares.org and click Scholarships on the navigation bar. Once one is on the Scholarship landing page, a few paragraphs from the #2 on that page, the click here will take them to it. When the system asks for “TC Student ID#”, they can make up any 8 digit number. When it asks for “County”, if their county is not on the list, they can select “Other”.
A student may apply for up to two different Tourism Cares scholarships per academic year.
Tourism Cares requires the student to request an official copy of his/her transcript be sent directly from the applicant’s school to Tourism Cares at 275 Turnpike Street, Suite 307, Canton, MA 02021, USA, Attention: Transcript. Only one copy of the transcript is required even if the student is applying for two scholarships. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that the transcript arrives by the deadline date.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by email or phone as soon as possible as time is of the essence.

Scholarship Opportunity for Immigrant Students: Deadline March 27, 2009
New scholarship opportunity for immigrant students in the capital region. This listserve has been an advocate for the underserved and I am asking for your support.
This spring, the Esperanza Education Fund will award: (1) $5,000 two-year scholarships and $10,000 four-year scholarships (2) to immigrant students in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, (3) to attend public colleges and universities, (4)
regardless of ethnicity, national origin, or immigration status.

Grants for Community Service Projects: Info Session Nov. 12, 2008
Grants available for Students doing Community Service Projects!
Interested in starting or continuing a service project but need money???
The Eagle Endowment for Public and Community Service is offering two $1000
grants to students interested in organizing a service project that furthers
Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream. Both graduate and undergraduate students
are encouraged to apply before the November 21st deadline by visiting
www.american.edu/volunteer. Winners will be announced in January as part of
the MLK week celebration.
Information sessions about the award criteria and past winners will be held
on Monday, November 10th at 5PM in MGC 200 and Wednesday, November 12th at
8pm in Hughes Formal. Food will be provided.

USDA Internships and Scholarship
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Public Service Leaders Scholarship (PSLS) Program is currently accepting applications for the 2008 program. The PSLS provides a combined scholarship/internship opportunities to college students leading to permanent employment upon completion of their degree. The program is designed to promote public service and create access to higher education. Recipients of a Public Service Leaders Scholarship enter into an agreement with the USDA to receive full-tuition scholarships for the indicated number of years. In addition, recipients intern at the USDA for a minimum of 640 hours prior to graduation. The internships are paid in addition to the scholarship funds. Recipients are required to work for the USDA for one year for every year of sponsorship upon graduation. Currently, the program has seven opportunities available. Attached is a full listing of the available positions for the 2008 program.
To be eligible for the program, students must meet the following eligibility requirements:
* Be a U.S. citizen, or be in the final stages of the application process for U.S. citizenship, and will have attained citizenship within a year of being accepted to the program;
* Be in good academic standing with at least a cumulative 2.75 grade point average based on a 4.0 scale;
* Have a strong interest in a career in public service with the USDA;
* Attend a mandatory orientation from July 6-12, 2008 in Washington, D.C.
* And meet major and class level requirements of each scholarship (see attachment).
APPLICATION DEADLINES:
March 25, 2008 for the five scholarships listed below
· ERS - PhD Scholar (Doctoral level students only)
· FS - Civil Engineer
· NASS - Statistician (Agricultural)

I am attaching the posting and specific application form for the specific Mayflower Tours Patrick Murphy Internship as it may be of particular interest to your students. This internship is for an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing travel and tourism with an interest in political science.
The student has the chance to intern during the fall semester at the office of Stephen Richer, the National Tour Association’s Public Affairs Advocate, located just outside Washington, DC in Alexandria, VA. This is just a friendly reminder about these great opportunities for your students. We want to make sure we have applications this year. Please be sure to spread the word as soon as possible as the deadline is only two weeks from today.
