Senior Legislative Representative, Education Advocacy - Education


Description:This position is generally responsible for advancing
federal policies that increase the time children and families spend in
the outdoors and federal policies that foster, K-12 environmental
education, sustainability education and green jobs training on college
campuses. The position will promote legislation and executive branch
actions that increase environmental literacy and a better
understanding of global warming by children, youth and young adults.
To achieve these goals the position will need to recruit or engage a
broad range of coalition partners, allies and constituencies, and
effectively engage the mass media. The position must also serve as a
key contact within NWF for all of the federal advocacy education work,
coordinating with staff in Reston, DC and the regional offices, as
well as serving as a resource on federal policy for our state
affiliate partners.

Salary Range:Based on Qualifications

Education:B.A. or B.S. in environmental science, natural resource
policy, education, political science or related field.

Required Skills:Minimum 7 years professional experience working on
legislative, environmental or education policy issues for a
Congressional office, government agency or advocacy group. Candidate
must have a good understanding of the non-profit environmental and/or
education communities.

Additional Skills:Excellent political and advocacy skills. Outstanding
verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and
ability to work in a fast-paced setting and think on your feet. Must
be able to evaluate quickly and thoughtfully the potential impacts of
a proposed policy/legislation on wildlife, ability for children and
families to connect with nature, etc. Must be reliable about
collecting and disseminating accurate information to the right people
in a timely way. Must understand how to operate within the political
framework to maximize the impact and influence that this organization
and its many members can have in influencing Americans’ connection
with nature and green jobs / sustainability education policy. Must be
a skilled and diplomatic negotiator in order to navigate intra-office
politics, as well as Congressional politics. Demonstrated self-starter
displaying initiative who independently manages own workflow.
