Senior Africa Policy Campaigner – Contract Job Posting
Greenpeace International’s Africa Forest team is seeking a Senior Campaigner to work on our campaign on the Congo Forest. This is a one year contract position based in Amsterdam or in Brussels with time spent in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Responsibilities:
• Establish and maintain political contacts at national, regional and local level in DRC in regards to forest issues. Follow and report on political developments in Kinshasa regarding the forests of DRC. Keep watching briefs on developments in other sectors or infrastructure developments as it relates to forests.
• In collaboration with Senior Campaigner based in Washington DC, maintain relationships with International Financial Institutions such as the World Bank Group, AfDB and others that are relevant to DR Congo on an as needed basis in DRC.
• Capacity building with local Congolese contractors and NGO partners.
• Represent Greenpeace in international and national media, maintain contacts with journalists working specifically on DRC and the Congo Basin. Facilitate trips for journalists to the field in DRC as needed.
• Work with Africa Forest Coordinator and others on the team to analyze field research and determine appropriate opportunities to bring this information forward to help drive the campaign goals.
• Collaborate with Greenpeace International Team on an Early Action Climate program in the push to Copenhagen 2009. This will entail monitoring climate specific developments within DRC’s government and helping local NGO’s to better understand the impacts of climate concessions, market mechanisms and other possible scenarios to protect DRC’s forests through a climate lens.
• Francophone with experience on forest issues in Central Africa and ideally in the DRC. Someone who has experience working at the International policy level as well as the national level.
Other information:
• Time on the ground in Kinshasa working with local partners and lobbying National and regional governments. This can be coordinated with the Africa Forest Coordinator to determine the ideal times to be on the ground.
• This position reports to Africa Forest Coordinator and can be based in Amsterdam or Brussels.
• The position is a contract for 1 year.
