Ask Obama to Stop Blasting!

The permits have been approved and they are preparing the explosives on mountains across Appalachia.

On February 13th, the courts made a devastating decision for our mountains—The damage will be done by more than 100 permits, covering nearly 100 square miles — and filling 441 valleys. This terrible decision makes it even more urgent that Obama’s administration acts now to end mountaintop removal coal mining. Obama needs to act quickly and place a moratorium on these permits that have been opened up by the court's decision -- before these mountains are destroyed forever.

As you know, mountaintop removal coal mining is one of the most destructive practices in the United States today. Mountains are blasted apart for coal, and the debris is shoved into nearby valleys, burying hundreds of miles of our streams. Mountaintop removal damages homes, poisons water and takes away the mountain heritage that makes Appalachia a national treasure.

We are currently working with Congress at the national level to create a permanent law--The Clean Water Protection Act-- to protect our nation's waterways from mountaintop removal -- but we need immediate action from President Obama in the short term to stop the destruction.

We need your help to put a hold on this national disgrace.
Please tell the Obama Administration to block these new mountaintop removal sites before it's too late. Once our mountains are gone, they are gone forever. President Obama himself has said that "We're tearing up the Appalachian Mountains because of our dependence on fossil fuels."
Please visit http://www.ilovemountains.org/action/epa to tell Obama's administration to act today to end mountaintop removal.
